Supply Lists

Dear Northwood Parents,

Listed below are supplies that each grade level suggests students bring to class this fall. These suggested lists have been compiled based on needs identified to support of the delivery of grade-level curriculum.

Please note that the Constitution of the State of California requires that we provide a public education to you free of charge. Your right to a free education is for all school/educational activities, whether curricular or extracurricular, and whether you get a grade for the activity or class. Subject to certain exceptions, your right to a free public education means that we cannot require you or your family to purchase materials or supplies for any school activity.

Therefore, while this list suggests that students bring a number of items, they are considered voluntary. No student will be restricted from participation if they are not sent to school.

(If shopping at Office Depot, please use Northwood Elementary School’s Office Depot ID #70009075 at the check-out counter. This will ensure that Northwood will get a 5% sales credit for each of these purchases).

kindergarten

No Backpacks, Lunchboxes only, No Names on Items-used by the whole class

  • 1 box of colored pencils  (24 count) - Crayola preferred
  • 1 box of crayons 24 count) - Crayola preferred
  • 1 dozen glue sticks - Elmer's preferred
  • 1 package of Avery White Easy Peel address labels (#8160  1in x 2 5/8 in) 30 labels per sheet
  • 1 ream of letter-size white copy paper
  • 1 white 1" View Binder - Avery preferred (no design or name)
  • 1 pack of baby wipes - unscented - Pampers or Huggies preferred

1st grade

Please no rolling backpacks. Backpacks should be able to hang on the backpack rack.  Please do not put names on supplies as all will be used community style (used by all class members)
It is helpful to have the following items already stocked in your child's pencil box (with first and last name). 
2 sharpened #2 pencils (no mechanical pencils), 1 box of 24 regular crayons, 1 yellow highlighter, 1 pair kid scissors, 1 glue stick, 1 eraser (e.g. Pink Pearl, Magic Erase)
  • Plastic pencil box - 2 1/2" height maximum (example)
  • 1 dozen #2 pencils (sharpened)
  • 2 boxes crayons - 24 count
  • 4 black, dry erase markers - Expo preferred
  • 2 pink erasers or Magic Erase (not pencil toppers)
  • 1 pair scissors - rounded
  • 24 glue sticks (small)- Elmer's preferred
  • 2 reams of letter-sized white copy paper
  • 2 yellow highlighters
  •  2 boxes of Tissues - large box preferred
  • 1 box of baby wipes

2nd grade

Please no rolling backpacks. Backpacks should be able to hang on the backpack rack.  Please do not put names on supplies as all will be used community style (used by all class members)

  • 4 glue sticks
  • 2 erasers - Pink Pearl or Magic Erase
  • 4 Expo black fine point dry erase markers
  • 1 eraser for white boards
  • 1 ream of letter-sized white copy paper
  • 1 wide-ruled spiral notebook (write name on notebook)
  • 2 large boxes of tissues
  • 1 container of baby wipes

From the list above, please have the following items already stocked in your child’s pencil box ( with first and last name) on the first day of school:

  • 2 dozen #2 pencils (sharpened) 
  • 1 box of crayons (24 count) – 
  • 1 box colored pencils, sharpened (24 count)
  • 1 pair of student scissors (Fiskars recommended)
  • 4 glue sticks
  • 1 ream of letter-sized white copy paper
  • 2 erasers
  • 2 packages of wide-ruled notebook paper
  • 1 solid colored binder with view-front cover (1” size with inside pockets)
  • 4-pack thin black expo dry erase markers
  • 3 two-pocket folder (1 red, 1 green, 1 blue,) – no plastic folders, no brads
  • 2 boxes of tissues – larger box preferred
  • 2 wide-ruled composition books
  • 2 yellow highlighters
  • 3 red pens
  • 1 container of baby wipes
  • Student Planner (may be purchased at school $7.00)

  • 3 hole zipper pouch complete with:
  • Scissors (student size)
  • 3 yellow highlighters
  • 3 red ink ballpoint pens (not erasable type)
  • 1 dozen #2 pencils (sharpened) (3 in pouch; the rest remain at home)
  • 2 erasers (i.e.: Pink Pearl, Magic Rub, or eraser tops) glue sticks
  • 1 set of colored pencils – (12 count, sharpened)
  • 1 pack of glue sticks
  • 2 fine tip black permanent markers (Sharpie brand preferred)
  • 2 black dry erase makers, fine point
  • 2 packages of college-ruled notebook paper
  • 1 3-ring binder (1 ” size with inside pockets)
  • 2 (70 page) college-ruled spiral notebooks (each a different color)
  • 2 packages of college-ruled notebook paper (1 to be kept home)
  • 5 two-pocket folders (1 red, 1 green, 1 blue,1 yellow, 1 purple) – no plastic folders
  • 1- 12” ruler (standard and metric scale edges)
  • Dictionary (small size, student version)
  • Thesaurus (small size, student version)
  • 1 box of tissues – larger box preferred
  • 1 ream of letter-sized white copy paper
  • Student Planner (may be purchased at school-$7.00)

The following novels will be read during the school year. Students will write and highlight in their personal copy. These novels can be purchased at any bookstore:

  • Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo (September)
  • Island of the Blue Dolphin by Scott O’Dell (Fall)
  • By the Great Horn Spoon by Sid Fleishman (Spring)

5th grade

Please NO rolling backpacks. Backpacks should be able to hang on the backpack rack

  • 1 3-ring binder (2” )
  • 2 sets of 5 section dividers for binder (will label at school)
  • 1 3-hole zipper pouch (no pencil boxes)
  • 2 textbook covers (large size)
  • 10-12 #2 pencils (sharpened) No mechanical pencils
  • 2 eraser (ie.: Pink Pearl, Magic Rub, or eraser tops)
  • 1 small hand-held pencil sharpener
  • 1 box of colored pencils (sharpened)
  • 2 red ink ballpoint pens (not erasable type)
  • 1 black fine point Sharpie marker and 1 black ultra-fine point Sharpie marker
  • 2 different colored highlighters (1 yellow, 1 green)
  • 1 small pair of scissors
  • 1 small calculator
  • 2 packages of wide-ruled notebook paper
  • 4 black low odor dry erase markers and a dry erase board eraser
  • 1 pack of glue stick
  • 1 white glue bottle
  • 1 set of earbuds to use with electronics (Chromebooks, iPads) in class
  • Student Planner (may be purchased at school $7.00)

Optional donation items for classroom: If you would like to donate, please bag items separately so student’s personal items are not accidentally donated for classroom use.

  • Ream of single color copy paper (any color)

6th grade

  • 1 ultra-fine tip black permanent marker
  • 1 fine tip black permanent marker
  • 1 box fine tipped colored markers
  • 2 red ink ballpoint pens (not erasable type)
  • 1 pair of student scissors
  • 4 glue sticks
  • 2 highlighters (1 yellow, 1 green)
  • 1 eraser (i.e.: Pink Pearl, Magic Rub, or eraser tops)
  • 1 3-ring binder (1 ½ “ with clear plastic sleeve on outside front)
  • 1 3-ring binder ( ½ “ for music)
  • 1 package of 8 tab binder dividers
  • 1 package of college ruled lined binder paper (100 sheets)
  • 1 5-Subject spiral notebook
  • 2 two-pocket folders (for classwork and homework)
  • 1 hard cover Composition Book (100 pages)
  • 1 12” ruler (standard and metric scale)
  • 4 low odor dry erase markers
  • Earbuds for Chromebooks (in Ziplock bag with name)
  • Student Planner (may be purchased at school $7.00)
  • 1 small calculator (with square root key)
  • 1 white dry erase board (no larger than 8” x 12 “)
